TELL THE STORY; THE TRUTH WILL BE CLEAR - A STATEMENT ON DIVERSITY & INCLUSION
Our stages in Franklin are quiet, but we at Studio Tenn cannot let our voices stay silent any longer. Studio Tenn stands with other voices across our country and world to say that Black Lives Matter. We are committed to societal and local change that promotes the power of diversity, inclusion, equity, and human flourishing.
The inequality that continues to plague our society is the antithesis of what Studio Tenn stands for. Our job is to bring people together, not to divide them. Our mission is to offer heart, hope, and healing. We are here to embrace people of all colors, of all lifestyles . . . to take the different threads of humanity and stitch them together into a tight-knit tapestry.
Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson, whose plays like “Fences” and “The Piano Lesson” addressed racism’s deep societal impact, was well aware of theater’s power to effect social change. “Make sure the story is told . . . and the truth will be clear,” he said.
At Studio Tenn, we don’t hold all the answers about how to move forward. But we are committed to being part of the solution. And so we are going to continue telling stories—everyone’s stories. We want our theater to become a conduit for change, a place where art can inspire understanding, and we invite your thoughts about how we can make that happen together.
