Studio Tenn’s Internship Program
Two Distinct Programs:
Interdisciplinary Production Internship (Up to 5 spots available)
This is a cross-departmental internship which extends the Liberal Arts pedagogy outside of the classroom. IPI Interns will work with a different department on a rotating basis, spending up to a total of 3 weeks in each department (departments include but are not limited to: Marketing/Box Office, Production/Stage Management, Producing/Administration, Costumes, and Scenic). Interns will also have an opportunity to work on a season production per semester.
Performance Internship (up to 2 spots available)
This internship exposes students to working in a professional rehearsal space, and provides the foundational skills to be a teaching artist. PI Interns will serve as swings for a season production. Interns will also serve as performers for the New Works presentation during the semester and teach classes for our ST Education program.
Studio Tenn Theatre Company is proud to offer young theatre practitioners the opportunity to train with industry and union professionals including IATSE, USA, SDC, and Actors’ Equity. As a valued member of the Studio Tenn family, interns work closely with artistic, producing, and administrative staff to help build and create shows that garnish both local and national press alike. Our internship program is geared toward college students and pre-professional individuals pursuing a professional theatre career.
Mission, Vision, and Goal:
The mission of Studio Tenn’s Internship Program is to combine a theatrical education with professional experience which mirrors that of a liberal arts curriculum. In doing so, we hope to create well-rounded theatre artists that can enter the entertainment industry creating informed, innovative, and imaginative art.
The ultimate goal is for each intern to leave with a practical set of skills and knowledge that spans all departments and transcends the normal theatre experience, all the while developing relationships locally and with guest artists from across the nation.
Qualifications:
The ideal intern is a Junior/Senior college student or pre-professional seeking academic credit from their institution. Interns should be actively enrolled in a Theatre program or equivalent degree program and excited to learn about all operational aspects of a professional regional theatre company.
Time Commitment:
Interns must be able to commit to an average of 15 hours per week for 15 weeks. Exact hours can be flexible based on class schedule and other academic commitments. Ideally interns will be available for two weekdays and one weekend day per week. Fall Semester schedule runs from August 22-December 9.
Compensation:
Internships are unpaid and housing is not provided. Students are encouraged to seek Academic Credit for their internship and Studio Tenn will fill out any necessary documentation. Interns will also enjoy two complimentary tickets to the season production they work on.
